Uses of Eye Hooks

Often when finishing up a sewing project such as a jacket or perhaps a skirt, you discover you need a closure. Eye hooks are a great closure to have on hand, but if you do not want to run to the store, there is actually a way in which you can create your own. Eye hooks are not only for clothing; there are many other uses of eye hooks.

Use of Eye Hooks

Eye hooks can be useful in many situations. Naturally they function to close gaps in clothing, but you can also use them on handbags or totes. Larger eye hooks can serve to hang decorative items on the wall in your home.

Needed Materials

To create your own eye hook, first purchase craft wire. Since it comes in a multitude of both colors and weights, you need to select the proper weight and material. Choose wire that has a gauge of 18 or 20. If it is available, purchase brass wire, which will be much stronger than wire made from aluminum.

Preparing the Wire

To begin making your eye hook, cut a small segment of wire. Find some needle nose pliers and wrap both ends of the wire around them. Typically you should wrap it about two times.

Loops & Hooks

To create loops, bend the middle of the wire around the pliers again. Next, pinch the wire until it is the desired size for your eye loop. In order to make a hook, fold the wire in half, then fold the long piece back. If you desire, you can flatten it with a hammer to give it a neater look. Your eye hook is done.

Eye hooks can be used for a variety of purposes around the house. By gathering a few supplies, you can easily create your own custom-made eye hooks for less money.
