How to Use Hook and Eye Clasps

Hook and eye clasps are necessary items for jewelry makers. Using them is the simplest way to close a chain of any sort with a secure fastener. The hook appears in the shape of a question mark, although the opening is much smaller. The eye is a small link in the chain through which the hook fits. Hook and eye clasps are good for use by small children and elderly persons.
First: Fasten the hook to the jewelry
Using a pair of jewelry pliers, gently open a link, and insert the enclosed end of the hook into the link. Close the link, ensure that both pieces are secured and that the hook does not fall off of the jewelry.
Second: Fasten the eye piece(s)
Chokers generally have a one to two-inch chain of eye links allowing the owner to fasten the hook through any of the eyes for a fit that is close to the body. It is possible to apply these links by using the same method as used to fasten the hook to the jewelry. Using jewelry pliers, gently open a link, and fasten it to the jewelry piece. Hook the eye link onto the jewelry, and squeeze the piece together.
Third: Hook the eye
Depending on the individual wearing the jewelry, hook and eye clasps are easy or difficult to use. Catching the eye in the hook can provide a challenge for older or younger wearers; however, the wearer can feel secure in the fact that the jewelry is extremely unlikely to fall off.
